Small Steps, Amazing Achievements: Tractor!

S and I went to the library with my sister the other day.

A was on book-picking duty. The instruction was: board books; anything with flaps or holes or tactile bits to feel; no princesses.

S and I chased each other around the library, playing peepo and scaring the old people, while A rummaged through the board books. Once she'd chosen a few, we checked them out and left.

When we got home I realised A had made an awesome selection: a book about trucks with lots of flaps to lift, and another about tractors with lots of shiny bits and a very interesting-feeling bale of straw. There were some others too, but they ended up not being half as interesting.

As soon as we got home from the library, S sat down and looked at the tractor book. She particularly liked the bale of straw.

After lunch, she looked at the tractor book again, and several times throughout the afternoon. She basically alternated between the tractors and the trucks. I sat with her for a while to read the book together - except I wasn't allowed to hold it, or to turn the pages.

Look at the shiny tractor!

This one's a tractor too!

And here's a tractor!

This tractor has some straw!

Look, a tractor!

Tractor!

Yes! Well done, it's a tractor!

Tractor!
Tractor!
Tractor!

Tractor is S's new favourite word. She loves to show off by saying it. At the moment, the trucks are tractors too - but we're working on that. Her pronunciation is getting much clearer with it as well - a lot clearer than with her other words (except duck obviously, which is perfect now, after months of shouting it!)

  10. I love it when they find a book they like, hopefully they don't get too obsessed with it and you have to read it every second. It's fantastic that you have another new word because of the love of this new book.

Thanks for linking up with Small Steps Amazing Achievements :0)
