How to Write a Great About Page for Your Blog

The "About Me" page is arguably the most important one on your blog. If you look at your stats, you'll see that it actually gets quite a lot of traffic; people want to know about you and who you are. This post is one of a series I have written about blogging tips. The full series can be found here
If you want to work with brands or PRs, it's especially important to have a good "About Me" page, as this is the first place they will look to see whether they want to work with you.

Here are a few tips for constructing a good "About Me" page.
  • First things first: there is no point whatsoever in writing yourself a lovely About page, publishing it, and then just never looking at it again. You need to regularly review your page and check whether all the information in it is still correct and relevant. If your About page says you're pregnant, but your child is clearly now a toddler, people will be confused as to what's going on.
  • Have a look at the About pages of other blogs in your area. See what information they include, but also read the page and see what you think of it. Is it easy to follow? Does it tell you what you want to know about the person? Read as many different About pages as possible to help you decide what you want to include in yours.
  • Tell the reader who you are, but also who the main people are in your blog. Unless you want to introduce each member of your family at the beginning of east post, put them in your About page. That way newcomers who aren't familiar with your blog will be able to figure out who you're talking about, how old they are, what position they have in your life. Share as much information as you are comfortable with the reader knowing up-front.
  • This sounds silly, but tell them what your blog is about. What do you write about? Is it just family life, or do you also blog about politics/feminism/mental health/disability/illnesses? Tell people what they can expect from reading your blog.
  • If you want people to contact you, whether that be potential guest posters, PRs or companies, tell them how to do that. Provide your email address and state exactly what you will and will not consider.
What do you think? Do you disagree with any of my tips? Do you have any to add? What do you think makes a great About page on a blog?

  1. Think i'll have a little look at mine. I didn't treat it as important so might look at it with different eyes now. Thanks for the useful info.

  2. This is a really good post. My 'About' page is not really detailed and probably doesn't put across what I want it to. Thanks for this, I'm going to sort mine out later!

  3. Yet another great post! My about me page is set out abit different but i think it gives all the needed details seems as though theres a seperate contact page x

  4. Great post! I need to work on mine a little more. It has not changed since I first started blogging over four months ago.
I am a new follower via "Showing Some Love Hump Day". Now following you on G+, Bloglovin, and Twitter. I look forward to reading more of your blog.
    Have a great day :)

  5. I must update mine, thanks for the tips!

  6. These are great tips! I actually opted to have an about me section on the side bar that gives pretty much everything that I want people to know about me instead of an actual page. I honestly love the new layout with the about me on the side like that....this way, as they are reading, they see my smiley face and can read the about me infobefore, during or after reading my latest post without having to click elsewhere. Hmm...I'm still a newbie so I wonder if this is good for my visitors or not. I'd love to hear what you think :)

Here is my new blog so you can take a peek:

  7. Very helpful post, thanks, should definitely rethink mine.

  8. Very helpful, thank you, I will rethink mine.

  9. Great tips, I think you are absolutely right. The "about me" page is so important, and too often neglected. A great idea to write a post explaining its importance, and a great post!

  10. Hey, this is a great post - thank you for sharing! You have inspired me to spruce up my about me page this week! Lovely blog too :)

  11. Fantastic post, thanks for sharing. Just gone back to my Update Page to have a tinkle.
    Love your blog xx

  12. Thank you for sure a helpful post - I have to admit my about page is just a mix up of all different things it doesn't have any real theme going on - perhaps I should take a few minutes and update it :).

Thank you for link up with the I Love My Post Blog Hop

  13. Some good tips! I haven't written an About Us page - I didn't really see much point but I've changed my mind now! Job for tomorrow!

  14. A great bunch of tips and very useful indeed. I shall bookmark this :) Thanks for linking to PoCoLo x

  15. My task for today is to write up the About Me page for my revamped blog (which will hopefully be launched this week!). Thanks for the tips, I will keep them in mind while writing! :)

  16. Good post. It's so easy to forget the About Me page, even though it's often one of the most viewed. I have just revamped mine but think it needs some work yet to get to a place where I'm really happy with it.
